Decay is beautiful
Read this interview with Erik Sommer 🔲 (USA) on the website of Oblo Gallery:
“I started using cement when I was in grad school. I have always been attracted to the rough, weathered, aged look and feel of urban environments - decay and the effects of time. In my early paintings I tried to replicate this grittiness with other materials, but eventually just started using cement itself. Over time I have learned how to manipulate acrylics, oils and other mediums in order to create controlled peeling, cracks and flakes.”
New Art & Artists

“Altering what ordinarily is the solid uniformity of concrete into casts that seem pulled, stretched, in transit. To take the stone and make it rip, blend, emote. To revise what is normally the process of casting the wet matrix of concrete into a solid block. To discover instead a form that looks like a sound wave instead of a static obelisk.”
Kurt Steger
Profile: Kurt Steger 🔲 (USA)
“Kurt Steger makes art that is of service, intended for healing our inner nature. Part woodworker, part ritual guide, Steger believes that it is our job on this earth to step into our brilliance and his job as an artist to facilitate that with objects and images.”
